Stretch's Mesa is too far behind, and building Mesa to build xserver is not the sort of problem we're trying to solve here. But our Travis scripts run inside a docker image, and that image can be whatever, so since I have to keep rawhide building anyway let's switch to that for now. The dockerfile can be found at: https://github.com/nwnk/xserver-travis The $DISTRO part of the change is foreshadowing for the day we readd a (probably sid-based) debian image; patches for other environments are welcome. X Server
The X server accepts requests from client applications to create windows,
which are (normally rectangular) "virtual screens" that the client program
can draw into.
Windows are then composed on the actual screen by the X server
(or by a separate composite manager) as directed by the window manager,
which usually communicates with the user via graphical controls such as buttons
and draggable titlebars and borders.
