The old function used int for write() return values, that could overflow.
And the return values of the write calls were discarded and not checked.
Now if the write() to the log file fails, a warning will be logged to
stderr and the log message will be appended after the warning.
If writes to stderr fail, a warning will be logged to stdout and the log
message will be appended after the warning.
If writes to stdout fail, we can't really do anything else and will
continue on silently.
Also used the length returned by strftime for the next write call to
eliminate an extra use of strlen.
The -1 was also removed from the buflen argument of strftime because it
was unnecessary.
Did some small formatting changes too.

This patch fixes Xserver crashes when evdev or synaptics input drivers are used.
These (and maybe other) driver use alternate forms "%#..." in formats for
xf86IDrvLogVerb() function, which in turn uses signal-safe vpnprintf().
The last function does not recognize alternate forms and exits abnormally, which
causes Xserver to crash. The patch make vpnprintf() to ignore alternate forms.

The variables that can be set via this function are all now being
accessed directly. Not callers left, so drop it.

No need for extra call to some demuxer function for nothing but setting a
simple bool variable. Setting the sync flag really is nothing more than just
writing some value into a variable, so it's trivial to just to do that, instead
of having an unncessarily complex "universal setter" for that.

Lots of logging functions, especially init and teardown aren't called
by any drivers/modules, so no need to keep them exported.

Since we're not indirectly writing via FILE anymore, this option has
become meaningless: it meant flushing out our in-process buffer to
the kernel, but we're now doing direct write() calls anyways.
xf86 still accepts the "flush" config file flag for backwards compatibility,
but it hasn't any practical meaning anymore.

simplify it to just a fd.

Using calloc() instead of malloc() as preventive measure, so there
never can be any hidden bugs or leaks due uninitialized memory.
The extra cost of using this compiler intrinsic should be practically
impossible to measure - in many cases a good compiler can even deduce
if certain areas really don't need to be zero'd (because they're written
to right after allocation) and create more efficient machine code.
The code pathes in question are pretty cold anyways, so it's probably
not worth even thinking about potential extra runtime costs.

Several pieces of the code, as well as drivers are using %X, which

In the longer run, we'll have to decide whether we actually want to
implement the upper-case directive or change all callers to lower-case.
But for now it's better to just accept %X and interpret it as lower-case,
in order to fix those error messages. Whether it's printed as upper or
lower case is more or less an aesthetic matter.

We already have our own signal safe vnsprintf() implementation, which is used
for formatting log messages while being in a signal handler, there's no need
to have two separate implementations of all the logging functions.

Simplify log formatting functions and remove redundancies, e.g.:
* common function for line termination
* copy prefix directly instead of *printf'ing it
* now just exactly one LogSWrite() call per message
(good for other log targets like syslog)

Several places using _X_ATTRIBUTE_PRINTF macro from X11/Xfuncproto.h
but missing to include it, so it depends on other headers whether it's
included by mere accident, which quickly causes trouble if include order
changes. Cleaning that up by adding explicit include statements.

This conditional practically only controls whether we have an pointer,
where DDX can plug in it's own VErrorF() handler (currently only xwin
doing that). The cost of having it even when DDX doesn't use it, is
really negligible: it's just one pointer and an extra non-null check
on it per VErrorF() call - a very cold path. Strangely, xwin has extra
